The other day I met a bear
Up in the woods A way up there
ある日、クマに出会った
森の中で 道の途中で
He looked at me I looked at him
He sized up me I sized up him
クマは私を見て、私もクマを見た
クマは私を見定めた 私もクマを見定めた
He said to me
Why don’t you run?
I see you don’t
Have any gun
クマは言った
「逃げないのかい？
見たところ、
銃をもっていないようだが」
And so I ran Away from there
But right behind Me was that bear
そして私は逃げ出した
でもすぐ後ろにはクマが
Ahead of me I saw a tree
A great big tree Oh, golly gee
目の前に木があった
とても大きな木だ、何てこった
The lowest branch Was ten feet up
I had to jump And trust my luck
一番低い枝でも3メートルはある
跳ぶしかない、運にまかせて
And so I jumped Into the air
But I missed that branch On the way up there
私は空中に飛び跳ねた
でも枝には届かなかった
Now don’t you fret And don’t you frown
I caught that branch On the way back down
心配しないで、難しい顔をしないで
落ちる時になんとか枝をつかめたんだ
That’s all there is There ain’t no more
Until I meet That bear once more
