Zanthoxylum

Zanthoxylum(In Nepali Timmur) (including genus Fagara) is a genus of about 250 species of deciduous and evergreen trees and shrubs in the citrus or rue family, Rutaceae, native to warm temperate and subtropical areas worldwide. Several of the species have yellow heartwood, to which their generic name alludes.

In Nepal: The bark, fruits and seeds are extensively used in indigenous system of medicine as a carminative, stomachic and anthelmintic.

We also make spices and pickles out of them.

The bark is pungent and used to clean teeth.

The fruits and seeds are employed as an aromatic tonic in fever and dyspesia.
